The Terrier Breeds.....
The terrier breeds get their name from the Latin word "terra" which means earth and it truly describes these dogs with the stamina, determination and courage to go to ground after their game. They literally chase them right down into their burrow. They come in different sizes and shapes but their purpose to route out and kill vermin like fox, weasel, and rat joins them. Some have been crossed with mastiff breeds to produce specialized hunters and guard dogs with the single minded terrier aggressiveness, courage and determination but with absolute loyalty and devotion to their owners. There are 28 breeds and varieties in the Terrier Group.
